Looking to improve your computer’s performance upgrading to a RAM is the best option. At Dove Computers we offer a variety in brand and storage.
RAM (Random Access Memory) is a type of computer memory that is used to store and access data temporarily while a computer is running. It is a volatile memory, meaning that the data stored in RAM is lost when the computer is turned off or restarted.
The primary purpose is to provide quick access to the information that the computer is currently using. For example, when you open a program or file, the computer loads it into RAM so that it can be accessed quickly. When you close the program or file, the data is removed from RAM to make room for new data.
This is an essential component of a computer’s performance, as it allows the computer to quickly access and manipulate data. The more RAM a computer has, the more programs it can run simultaneously, and the faster it can perform tasks.
It comes in different capacities, ranging from a few gigabytes to several terabytes, and in different types, such as DDR, DDR2, DDR3, and DDR4.
Types of RAM
There are two main types ;
Static
Static RAM is the full form of SRAM. In this type of RAM, data is stored using the state of a six-transistor memory cell. Static RAM is mostly used as a cache memory for the processor (CPU).
Dynamic
DRAM stands for Dynamic Random Access Memory. It allows you to store each bit of data in a separate capacitor within a specific integrated circuit. Dynamic RAM is a standard computer memory of the many modern desktop computers.
Other types of RAM
Fast Page Mode Dynamic Random Access Memory
Fast Page Mode Dynamic Random Access Memory is a type of RAM that waits through the entire process of locating a bit of data by column and row and then reading the bit before it begins on the next bit. Max transfer rate is around 176 Mbps.
SDR
SDR RAM is a full form of synchronous dynamic access memory. It has access times between 25 and 10 ns(nanosecond), and they are in DIMM (dual in-line memory module) modules of 168 contacts.
They store data using capacitors using IC’s (Integrated Circuits). On one of its sides, they have terminations, which can be inserted inside of the individual slots for the Motherboard’s memory.
Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory
Rambus Dynamic Random Access Memory is a full form of RDRAM. This type of RAM chips works in parallel, which allows you to achieve a data rate of 800 MHz or 1,600 Mbps. It generates much more heat as they operate at such high speeds.
Uses
- Running Programs: It is used to store the data and instructions that are currently being used by programs running on the computer. This allows the computer to quickly access the necessary data, making programs run more efficiently.
- Multitasking: It allows computers to run multiple programs simultaneously, making it easier to switch between programs and complete multiple tasks at once.
- Gaming: Modern video games require large amounts of RAM to store the game’s data and graphics.
- Virtual Machines: Virtual machines are used to run multiple operating systems or software environments on a single computer.
- Web Browsing: Web browsers use RAM to store website data and tabs that are currently open.
Laptop
Laptop RAM, or laptop memory, is used in laptops and other portable devices. It is available in various types, including SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, DDR2 SDRAM, DDR3 SDRAM, and DDR4 SDRAM. For laptop RAM we would highly recommend the Crucial DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) SODIMM Laptop Memory Kit. One of our top selling brands is Crucial. It offers exceptional performance and great value, making it a great option for you.
Desktop
Desktop RAM, or desktop memory, is used in desktop computers. It comes in various types, including SDRAM, DDR SDRAM, DDR2 SDRAM, DDR3 SDRAM, and DDR4 SDRAM.
In this case we would highly recommend the Team Group DDR3L 8GB 1600. It is energy efficient, cost effective and easy to install.
